Disney Buys Lucasfilm, More Star Wars Movies

By now you've heard of the news about Disney buying Lucasfilm for $4.05 billion, and with it comes an announcement of a new Star Wars movie - Star Wars: Episode VII - to be release in 2015. But to be honest, has anyone not seen this coming? I mean, a Star Wars ride has been in Disneyland for many, many years. And what could this do for the franchise?

End of an Era: Captain America #19

Writer: Ed Brubaker
Penciller: Steve Epting

It has been almost 9 years since Ed Brubaker started writing the relaunch of Captain America's fifth volume. Along with Steve Epting, the title became an instant critical success when it launched. Looking back, I can say Brubaker's Captain America is one of Marvel's best comic book runs in the past decade. Before this I found the character pretty boring, but Brubaker hooked me in with this title.

Throughout Brubaker's run, he had done a lot of things to the title, including bringing Cap's sidekick Bucky back from the dead, killed Steve Rogers, made Bucky take the mantle of Cap, and then resurrecting Steve Rogers. With last week's issue #19, Brubaker bids farewell to the title.

Classic Marvel Figurine Collection #15: Thor

After years of searching, I finally got a hold of myself Thor's figurine. I started collecting these figurines around 2008 and Thor was a very hard find. I don't buy online so comic conventions and local specialty stores are the only options for me for acquiring these things.

I said before that I'm gonna lay low for a while from collecting CMFC whenever I get Thor so that's what I'm gonna do, although I'd get Punisher, Scarlet Witch, and the soon-to-be released Giant Man when I see them.

Now that I have Thor, the core members of the Avengers are finally complete! Onto the pictures!

Collection Update (August 2012)

Two weeks ago monsoon rains hit our country, leading to widespread floods and no electricity. So with me stuck at home and had nothing better to do, I decided to take pictures/do some inventory of my collection. It's been a while since I took pictures and a lot has changed. I had to rearrange the items and move some of them around the shelf to achieve a more streamlined look.

The most notable change probably is the Green Lantern section. It has grown a lot bigger compared to last time, now with other colored Lanterns included, and a lantern battery!

"Why Don't Superhero Movies Lead to More Comic Sales?" - Comics Alliance

While going through my usual internet ritual, I came across an article on Comics Alliance on why superhero movies lead to more comic sales. In the article, people from the comics industry give their thoughts on why they think it is the way it is, and it compelled me to write this post as well. Go read the article if you haven't as it points out some interesting insights about the relation of superhero movies and comics.

Thomas Jane Returns as the Punisher in Dirty Laundry

In 2004, Thomas Jane starred in the movie The Punisher based on the character of the same name. However, it wasn't as well-received as the other Marvel movies because of its poor script even though Jane gave a great performance. Now he returns in a fan film that sort of serves as a "sequel", titled Dirty Laundry.

Directed by Phil Joanou, Thomas Jane stars as Frank Castle/Punisher when he witnesses a gang harrasing citizens in the street while he does his laundry. Ron Perlman (Hellboy) also stars as a handicapped store owner.

Evo 2012 Moments and the Fans

The Evolution Championship Series is the biggest annual fighting game tournament where the best players around the world compete for the top prize. This year's Evo just wrapped up last July 6th-8th, and with it comes a recap video showing the greatest moments from the tournament, and another one with interviews from the players describing the Evo experience.

Even if you do not like fighting games, at least you can appreciate the passion of the players and the spirit of competition. And those are the two reasons why I play fighting games.

Check out the videos after the cut.

Deadpool Video Game Trailer

This one was totally unexpected. Marvel has officially announced that there's a Deadpool video game that's being developed by Activision and High Moon Studios. San Diego Comic-Con sure is the biggest event when it comes to comic book-related announcements.

And they already have a teaser trailer! From watching the trailer, I guess this will be an M-rated game.

Marvel Studios Reveals "Phase Two:" Ant-Man, Guardians of the Galaxy, and More

Real Iron Man

With The Avengers movie out, I've been seeing a lot of Avengers-related stuff in my news feed on Facebook. However, one thing really caught my eye - a cosplay video of Iron Man. So what's so special about it? There are lots of cosplayers of Iron Man out there at conventions, but this video is special. This guy actually created a mechanical Iron Man suit! It's awesome!

Street Fighter X Tekken - Thoughts and Comments

To fighting game players, a crossover game between Street Fighter and Tekken is never going to happen. Both of these games are fighting games, but they fall in two different subcategories of the genre. Street Fighter is a 2D fighting game, meaning the characters only move in a 2-dimensional plane. On the other hand, Tekken is a 3D fighting game. As the name suggests, the characters in Tekken can move freely in a 3-dimensional plane where they can do sidesteps. These games play very much differently to even consider creating a crossover game with these two franchises.

However, in San Diego Comic-Con 2010, Yoshinori Ono, the producer of Street Fighter IV, announced Street Fighter X Tekken. The game was finally released in early March 2012, to many fighting gamers' anticipation. Two of the biggest fighting game franchises going against each other is now a reality.

Classic Marvel Figurine Collection Special: M.O.D.O.K.

Non-comic book fans usually have no idea who this guy is. However, M.O.D.O.K. suddenly had a surge of popularity. He frequently appeared in Marvel's web series called "Marvel Superheroes: What the-?!" as comic relief. You guys should check out that series. It's pretty funny.

Although that webseries gave him some decent exposure to casual readers, I think being included in the cast of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 gave him a boost in popularity. It's surprising to see him get included in the game, but I think Marvel wanted him there.

Anyway hit the jump to see the pictures.

Classic Marvel Figurine Collection #164: Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell)

I didn't get the first Captain Marvel (Genis-Vell) lead figurine Eaglemoss released a few years ago because I'm not familiar with that version of him. And I was actually wondering why they chose him for the Captain Marvel figurine. But after a long wait, fans of the most well-known Captain Marvel in the Marvel universe will rejoice now that Eaglemoss has finally released Mar-Vell. I was actually waiting for this one, too.

Now my Marvel cosmic characters Black BoltGladiator, Thanos, Galactus, and Beta Ray Bill will have another friend to be displayed beside them. Hit the jump to see the pictures.

New "Amazing Spider-Man" Game Trailer Looks Fun

It's been a while since I got pretty excited for a new Spider-Man game. I skipped "Shattered Dimensions" and "Edge of Time" because it didn't look good to me. However, Beenox, the same developer of those two games I mentioned, is now making this Spider-Man based on the upcoming "The Amazing Spider-Man" reboot movie.
