MG 1/100 Gundam Deathscythe Hell EW

It's been a while since I purchased a Gundam model kit, and I thought I was done with it. But with the release of the MG Gundam Deathscythe Hell EW, this hobby just pulled me right back in.

The Deathscythe Hell Custom is one of my favorite Gundams so I just had to have it. To be honest, the first Gundam series I ever watched was G Gundam. Gundam Wing and its OVA Endless Waltz only came next. Although its story leaves a lot to be desired, the Gundams still give me a sense of nostalgia.

Anyway enough blabbering and onto the model kit.

If I remember correctly, this kit comes with 21 runners. The photo doesn't show it because I just spread them out while still in their plastic bags.

As you can see in the photo below, sanding out black parts leaves very visible marks compared to other color parts. So the only thing to do is to repaint the part. I used a Tamiya TS-6 Matt Black for this. Plus the parts aren't black enough for my liking.

One of the problems I had with the face plate, aside from the fact that it doesn't really snap in well, was that the panel lines weren't really that defined, making it hard for me to panel line it. So I carved it out further with a design knife.

The model kit doesn't come with anime accurate colors. The grey parts come in a more purple shade rather than dark grey like in the anime. Of course I wanted anime accurate colors so I repainted all the supposedly grey parts.

For the grey parts, I repainted them with a Tamiya TS-67 IJN Grey (Sasebo Arsenal) spray paint.

Hmm the difference isn't that visible in this picture.
Now for the eyes, my technique for painting the eyes is first spraying all of it with black paint. Then I use a Gundam Marker or with a very fine paintbrush to paint the eyes. Whenever I go over the edges, I clean it up with a black marker.

Black.
Green eyes and the radar.
I'm skipping the rest of the building process to the decals. This kit comes with a sheet of dry decals and stickers.

Using a design knife for the stickers makes it easier and more precise to attach.

And here is the finished product - the MG Gundam Deathscythe Hell Custom.

  1. That's pretty awesome Drew. One question, though. What material is the scythe made of? Is it plastic?

    1. Yup it's made of plastic. The gel-type bendable plastic.
