Iron Spider-Man Bust by Diamond Select Toys

From the events of Civil War, it's the Iron Spider-Man mini-bust.


This costume, called the Iron Spider, was given to Peter Parker by Tony Stark. Hence the red and gold color, and also the high-tech-iness of the suit. He only wore this during Civil War. He then disposed of it afterwards when he switched sides to Captain America.

The Mighty Thor Bust by Diamond Select Toys

Behold the Norse God of Thunder, the Mighty Thor.

This is my first Marvel bust from Diamond Select Toys. And for a bust, this one is huge. It's almost as big as my Superman/Batman mini-statues. This Thor bust stands about 5" tall. It's pretty heavy too. Well, I'm not surprised. He's the God of Thunder after all.

Again, I'm not a fan of Thor. But this bust is so beautiful that it made me appreciate him more. So now I like Thor much more. :P

1/7 Silver Surfer Statue By Bowen Designs

Behold the herald of Galactus, the Silver Surfer.

I'm not really a fan of Silver Surfer but this statue really got into me. And now I learned to appreciate the Silver Surfer more because of this statue. The first time I saw it I was already tempted to buy it right then. But I had no money so I came back a week later and finally got it.

The whole statue (including the base) stands more than 12" tall.

Yeah, look at my ass baby.

Spawn #8 Figure by McFarlane Toys

Due to a special request by a friend, I went to my house in QC and took pictures of my only Spawn figure.


I bought this figure when I was in high school. Yes, this figure has been with me for 6 years if I remember correctly. Yes, those are real chains. And yes, this is a Spider-Man pose.

This figure is based on the cover of Spawn #8, which was based on another cover - Peter Parker: Spider-Man #1. The covers were drawn by Todd McFarlane.

Green Lantern Alan Scott Mini-Bust

Today I got to buy the Alan Scott Mini-Bust with his power ring replica.


A bust is the same as a statue but only features the upper body of the character. Busts stand about 4-5 inches tall and has the same quality as a full statue. And it's much cheaper than statues. They cost around 2-3k PHP, while statues cost more than 5k PHP.

To assure that it's not a recast (fake), it comes with a Certificate of Authenticity from the manufacturer.

This is Alan Scott, the first Green Lantern there ever is on Earth. See? Not all Green Lanterns wear a green costume. He wanted to be...uhh...different.

The bust comes with a replica of Alan Scott's power ring.

Which means that you can wear it, and become a Green Lantern yourself (minus the powers, unless you got a real one).

Alan Scott looks good with Hal Jordan.

The Dark Knight

The most anticipated movie of this year has finally arrived on the big screen. And I gotta say that it's freaking great.


First of all, this is just not an ordinary superhero movie. It manages to stem out of the norm and turn into a movie much bigger than a superhero movie. The Dark Knight depicts corruption, crime and justice in a realistic way. With that, this has turned into a dark and serious flick. In addition, there are no special effects in this movie. So if you see a buildings and cars exploding, they really are exploding! A helicopter crashing down? You bet your ass it's real. No CG.

The story is basically the DC type of telling stories: a bit convoluted at first but in the end you'll realize it's freaking awesome. While watching the movie, you have to think about the little aspects that appears in the movie or else you won't get along.

The character development for the new characters are good. Harvey Dent's character is actually the most sympathetic one. Though I'd already known he'd be Two-Face sooner or later, after seeing the character of Harvey Dent I wished that tragic event wouldn't happen to him, leading to his own destruction. As for the Joker, all I can say is he's a notorious psychopathic clown. The portrayal of The Joker in The Dark Knight proved why he is the greatest villain to ever graced the comic books. Just creeped the hell out of me. Why so serious?

Overall, you must never miss this movie. A combination of dark superhero action and seriousness is just classic. Oh one more thing, I wouldn't recommend this to children.

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion

Fresh from E3 2008, a teaser trailer for Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2: Fusion.

The story will be around the events regarding the Secret War event of Marvel up to Civil War. So meaning you can fight other heroes and maybe choose sides.

As the name implies, players can "fuse" powers from other superheroes together to create a hybrid ability. You can see an example of Iron Man and Invisible Woman performing the "fusion" in the video.

This game will be released for the next-gen consoles and the Nintendo DS sometime in 2009.

Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars

For the first time ever, the Grand Theft Auto series will move its way to the Nintendo DS with GTA: Chinatown Wars.

If you remember my post about Grand Theft Auto IV, you'd notice that I was ranting about an Asian main character. Well I think Rockstar might have heard my cry. *Chinese accent* Presenting.... Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars! *Chinese accent*

As the name suggests, this will only be set on modern day Chinatown in Liberty City, and not the real Chinese country. And what crime syndicate organization involves Chinese people? The Triads, of course! This game will feature new characters (Chinese?) and a new game engine for the DS.

Not much details has been revealed about this as it is still under development. It will be released in Winter 2008. That is, if there will be no delays. :P

DC or Marvel?

This may be the question that's been going on over comic book fans for years. Which is better?

If you don't have any idea what's the difference, DC is the company that owns Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman and the whole Justice League heroes. On the other hand, Marvel owns Spider-Man, Captain America, Iron Man and the rest of the superheroes that made it big on the big screen.

So which company is better? In my opinion, they're both great. None is better than the other. Both companies have their own pros and cons, ups and downs, good and bad sides. I'll start with my opinion on DC.

Obviously, DC started this whole superhero thing in comic books with Superman. Superman was a huge success and everybody knows him. I think he's the most popular superhero and maybe the favorite of your parents. Though not all people like him much, they know who he is. Anyway, I gotta say that what separates DC from Marvel are their superheros. DC's superheroes are very iconic.

Green Lantern, The Flash, Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Martian Manhunter.

They are huge icons and they mean serious business. Furthermore, their symbols/logos really represent justice. It's what sets them apart. They are unique in their own way. I'm not saying Marvel characters are not unique, but you get my point. Besides, their logos make good superhero shirts, unlike Marvel. :P Also, DC's stories can be very brutal and dark at times. Well, most of the time actually. And they really like killing their characters.

Even though they are members of the Justice League, all superheroes in it have their own titles. It just shows they can handle things on their own with their unique powers, and that's another reason in what sets them apart.

The only problem with DC is their continuity sucks. For starters, did you know there are many versions of Superman? Look at this.

Superman of Earth-1 (which is our Earth), Superman of Earth-2, Superman (Kingdom Come) of Earth-22, and the Red Son Superman of Earth-30.

Yep they all exist, though not on the same Earth. DC has this thing called the Multiverse, which is basically an excuse for their continuity mishaps. The Multiverse contains different parallel universes. Thus, multiple Earths.

New readers might find this really confusing and would make them say, "What the f---?! Why are there two Superman's?" But with a little research and the like, you'll get along soon.

Moving on to Marvel, its superheroes are...well...colorful. I know how to describe them but I can't put it to words. They are iconic too but not as iconic as the DC ones. From my observation, the way their costumes were drawn is more on the light/bright/happy side.

The Sentry, Spider-Man, Iron Man, Spider Woman (hot hot hot!), Captain America, Wolverine, Ronin.

I think what makes them not that iconic and unique is the fact that most of them are members of a group. For example, Fantastic Four and the X-Men. If you remove Reed Richards (Mr. Fantastic) from the Fantastic Four and give him his own title, do you think he'll still be able to pull it through? I don't think so. It's really hard to explain but I think you're getting it.

As for continuity, Marvel does a pretty good job. New readers may find it easy to get into Marvel because it's targeted to both old and new readers. Don't get the wrong impression, though. Marvel stories also have depth and seriousness.

Another thing about Marvel is that they are a corporation/dictatorship. Movies, cakes, pillows, toys and just about anything that Marvel could think of just to promote their characters. And hell they are good at promoting and marketing their characters. People may not know that Spider-Man is unmarried or Captain America is dead, but at least they'll know who Elektra is (because she has a movie). Not like DC that just keeps whoring out the same characters again and again. *cough*Superman/Batman*cough*

However, I think Marvel is going over the board with their marketing. Come on, Marvel Zombies? Marvel Apes? It's an obvious strategy just to make more toys and sell more comics just to rake in the moolah.

To conclude this, both have their own good and bad sides. As for me, I like Marvel a little more than DC. And for the record, I read comics from both companies. All I have to say is that DC is for the hardcore comic book readers/fans, while Marvel is for the hardcore and the light-readers (I'm both). Marvel just promotes their characters better. :P

So, which do you like? I think most of you will answer Marvel.
